"Worth or Worthless"

Materials: Metallic Watercolor Paint and Marker

Worth or Worthless

In today's society we are consumed by the idea that money provides happiness and security, but yet we often throw away our happiness for money. "Worth or Worthless" provides the conflicting idea of money and security. I used a suit of armour silhouette to demonstrate the idea of protection that money can provide, however, I used pennies that are often viewed as "worthless" to show how often people throw away money. If money was worth everything in life it wouldn't be lying on every street corner.

Coil

"Coil" is an illumination piece inspired by circular organic shapes. The curves of the coils hold their shape with wire and LED lights are sewn in the inside of each level. "Coil" has been featured in the 2014 Michigan State University Apparel and Textile Design and was voted one of the Fan Favorites of the show. It was also invited to be presented at the Broad Art Museum's 1st Anniversary Gala. At the Gala it was apart of a living art exhibit.

3D STRUCTURE

"3D Structure" takes inspiration from origami and geometric shapes and folds. This garment was created by using origami folding techniques and pleating. It also plays on the architectural forms that create shadows and highlights. "3D Structure" is made from crepe material backed with buckram and silk chiffon and satin for the skirt.
